How to Duplicate a Page in WordPress

Updated August 20268 min readWPFixMate

Duplicating a WordPress page is useful when you want to reuse a layout, campaign structure, service-page format or landing-page design without rebuilding everything from scratch. The important part is copying the right things while avoiding duplicate URLs, stale forms, old SEO metadata and page-specific settings that should not carry over.

Three Ways to Duplicate or Clone a WordPress Page

1. Use a duplication plugin

This is usually the simplest option when the page contains more than basic block content. A suitable duplication plugin can copy the post record and may preserve page-level settings that a manual copy would miss.

Create the duplicate as a draft, then review its title, slug, template, featured image, custom fields, SEO settings and any plugin-specific data before publishing.

2. Copy all blocks in the WordPress editor

For a straightforward Gutenberg page, open the editor, use the editor menu to copy all blocks, create a new page and paste them into the new draft.

This copies the content structure, but it may not copy page-level settings such as the assigned template, custom fields, featured image, SEO metadata or plugin-specific options.

3. Recreate the page manually

Manual recreation is slower but can be the safer choice when the existing page contains old shortcodes, abandoned widgets, unnecessary scripts or layout problems you do not want to carry into the new page.

What to Check Before Publishing the Duplicate

Duplicating Elementor Pages

Elementor pages can contain page settings, templates, responsive values, custom CSS, popups and Theme Builder relationships that are not obvious from the visible design alone. A copied page can look correct while still carrying old links, form actions or display conditions.

If the editor itself is failing, use the Elementor not loading guide or the dedicated Elementor support service rather than duplicating the page as a workaround.

Avoid Duplicate-Content Problems

Creating a draft copy is not a problem by itself. The risk begins when two published pages remain substantially identical and compete for the same search intent.

Before publishing: give the duplicate a distinct purpose, rewrite the title and metadata, update the main copy where needed, and make sure the URL targets a genuinely different page goal.

When You Should Not Duplicate the Page

Do not clone a page simply because the existing one is broken. If the original page has plugin conflicts, fatal errors, corrupted templates, inherited CSS problems or outdated widgets, duplicating it can reproduce the same fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I duplicate a WordPress page without a plugin?

Yes. Copying all blocks into a new draft works for simple pages. Review page-level settings separately because they may not come across with the content.

Does duplicating a page copy its URL?

No. The new page needs a unique slug before publishing.

Should I duplicate a page for every city?

Not automatically. Location pages should have a genuine business purpose and useful local relevance rather than being thin copies with only the city name changed.
